I have no shame in sharing with you that I blog stalk his site. I have clicked on his site a million times and check his blog regularly. He doesn't post often but when he does it's so worth it. I am just amazed by him. I remember the first time I really saw his work for Lisa Raye's wedding. Before then I was like uh yeah, he's cool. But then I saw him in action and saw the whole set up and what it took to put on that HUGE event and I fell in love. It's been a great relationship since: he does great things and I *LovE* him.

I mean, I know if you are reading this post you are no stranger to him but I can still profess my love, no?

I could go on and on....this man's vision is simply amazing and inspiring. I *love* his style and love everything he creates: from the big over-the-top floral designs to the the small little touches like the way he wrapped the bottom of the vases in ti leaf to add to the aesthetic. Augh! I adore it...anyhoo-till next time!

I heart NYC

We had dinner at Tavern on the Green
They were setting up a wedding as we were having dinner and I snatched up some pictures! =)

It was soooo beautiful in there, it was like a greenhouse wedding and I wish we could have been there at night to see the lights and possibly the fireworks go off.

I just returned from a minimoon to NYC and I have about 500 pictures, hehe, I was the typical tourist snapping shots everywhere and I won't bore you with all of them but I will share these with you.

Walk this way to the alter.
How cute are these? They are from the Original Adidas Store on Wooster St. in NYC. YOU can design your own Adidas from start to finish and you can design your own Diesel jeans there as well. Aren't these perfect for a quirky couple that wants to keep things casual? Especially if you have your heart set on a big poofy dress, you can keep things comfortable and flash these bad boys for pictures and dancing. :)

One Little Splurge

As you're planning your wedding, there will be things that come up, things that scream to you "YOU HAVE TO HAVE ME!!" They might be towering cakes that look like works of art, gorgeously glamorous reception venues, or Vera Wang dresses. After a while, it's hard to stick to your budget, and you might be tempted to just charge it.

After all, you just have this one day, right?

Well, yes and no. You'll only have one wedding day (hopefully!), and it should be a dreamy day full of all the people you love enjoying themselves and having a grand time. At the same time, it is just one day. When it's over, you probably won't want to be paying credit card bills for the next 5 years or going without new shoes for the next decade to finance a wedding beyond your means.

We decided to stick to a pretty strict budget. For me that meant staying out of bridal salons with temptingly perfect gowns that I knew I couldn't afford. Here is a photo of my dream dress, a Reem Acra beauty (photo from http://www.theknot.com/)

Isn't it a beauty? Well, for our wedding, we were quite frugal with many things. We didn't spend a fortune on a fancy cake or a glamorous venue, and I decided against a spendy gown. But there was one thing that we wanted more than anything, and we decided to splurge

on . . .

a photobooth!

We hemmed and hawed about it for about a month before we decided to go for it. While we're glad we kept within our budget on most things, we're really happy that we chose this one thing to splurge on. It really gave a fun, casual vibe to our reception. While I'm at it, I should put in a good word for our photobooth vendor, Photoboof! Justin and his assistant from Photoboof! were there all night making sure the photobooth was operational. At the end of the night, they even printed out some of the best strips from the night so that we could take them home with us. I highly recommend them to anyone contemplating a photobooth rental in the San Francisco Bay Area http://www.thephotoboof.com/

As far as the budget goes, if you have the money to splurge on the designer dress, and that is important to you, then by all means go for it! A luxury here and there will make your wedding special, even if your shoes are from Payless, your music is played on an iPod, and your cake is from Costco. Have fun with it and make it yours!

Boutonniere Blast!

Jen inspired me to pull out my Etsy find.
Tinarie21's shop has beautiful boutonnières and ring pillows.

Can you believe these beauties? They are gorgeous!

I know it's not a boutonnière but,
I'm sure you'll be able to get cut me some slack : P
Something Blue anyone?

Or you can make your own! How you ask?

Martha has the answer
{doesn't she always?}

Here are the instructions on how to make your own:

Forgotten Detail

In my excitement over my new cake stand (did you see it below? It's so pretty!) I forgot to mention the most important part.

If you go to http://www.whitneysmithpottery.com/ you can actually set up a wedding registry for these gorgeous ceramics. If only I had found that out before we got married . . .

Where are you registering? Is anyone going against the grain and foregoing a registry altogether?

It's fate!

So, you know when something is just obviously meant to be? I feel that way about my husband. I also feel that way when I find an amazing sale or a great vintage find in a thrift store. Well, right now I'm feeling that away about my new cake stand!

You see, I'd been admiring the work of Whitney Smith http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5189972 for quite some time. She has beautiful lotus bowls

and poppy bowls

But most of all . . . she has amazing cake stands!

Well, one day I was perusing etsy which I am prone to do when I'm bored, and I clicked on the "Shop Local" link. This is a cool feature that shows you artists in your hometown. I love to shop locally in general, but I'll write about that another time. Lo and behold, Whitney Smith actually has a studio just a couple miles from me! As you can imagine, I high-tailed it over there this past weekend and finally purchased my very own cake stand. Here she is:

Isn't she lovely? Now all I need to do is bake some cute little cakes to set on it. We also received a bigger glass cake dome from our wedding registry, and I am already imagining the fun I'm going to have with my cake stands (mini quiche! brie! fruit! cupcakes! muffins!). I think a brunch is in order . . .
Check out the "shop local" section of www.etsy.com sometime and see what artists are in your neighborhood!
Till next time,
Jen

contemporary * couture

I really love to check out floral design companies from all over the world and often find myself wandering into sites by accident and being pleasantly surprised at some fabulous finds. I especially love couture florals and trust me, I will post on some companies that are just ridiculously good at this particular art.

I came across this company out of Atlanta called
Buckhead Blooms

I've read reviews on them and they are all raves.
I was a bit interested in their "traditional" floral arrangements but when I looked through their couture and contemporary portfolio-I was in love.
